For drama, try a version like the Black Moulin: #1546

For drama, try a version like the Black Moulin: #1546

fall. autumn. that time of year when tv shows finally start again. whatever you want to call it, its quickly on the heels of summer and will be here before you or i know it. for some of you, this may mean a tear shed over not

being able to wear your maxi dress and gladiator sandals for much longer, but for others [like me!] it may mean a welcomed end to the sweaty, oppressively humid, hot nights and days of the last few months.

For a playful, bohemian vibe, try the polka-dot feather - #1544-DOT

either way, we have many things to look forward to my friends.

tight season is quickly upon us which means it will soon be time to break out the ankle booties, the knee skimming dresses, that favorite leather jacket and celebrate the return of gossip girl, 30 rock, and the changing of the leaves. fall style is an array of layered looks with a casual feel paired with some stellar accessories. and as long as blair waldorf continues to grace our television sets, the headband will continue to be the go-to accessory of the cooler months.

not only does a headband offer about the quickest bad hair day fix since the brush, but it adds that perfect final touch to any outfit. but don’t get me wrong, the fall go-to is not  the simple plastic version we all knew too well as kindergartners. we’re talking feathers, flowers-pretty much anything with flair.

the best thing about one of these bad boys? longevity. wear with hair up, hair down, center part, side bangs-any style could use a little extra va-voom! they’ll take you from jeans and a t-shirt by day to little black dress date nights. one of these not-so bad boys will take you right through the holiday party season and then some. so snag one before gossip girl returns and perhaps people will think good ol blair waldorf is taken a cue from you-and not vice versa.

The Fashion Guru – “When you’re good to mama, mama’s good to you…”

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

I know, I know! I don’t even like Chicago [so many fishnets, so little time], but somehow it seemed fitting.

So guess what day it is, chickadees?!? In case you’re really at a loss, haven’t turned on the news in the past month, haven’t shopped online recently enough to see people hitting you over the head with their eco-friendly products, or haven’t seen that REALLY SUPER ADORABLE preview for the Disney movie “earth,” it’s Earth Day, my loves.

And it’s not too late.

You too can escape the guilt of being a “carbon footprinting, ozone depleting, plastic bag using bitch who doesn’t care about generations to come” [have I made you feel terrible yet?] by promoting and using some eco-friendly products. And for those of you who’s instinct is to think, “eco-friendly, shmeco-friendly,” just remember how you’re helping to stimulate the economy, which is 2nd on the list of things you aren’t doing that you should feel guilty about. Either way, top two is pretty dang good.

So I bring you a few selections of products that not only help out Mama Tierra, but also help give that economy a lil kick in the pants:

Personally, I adore this necklace. Not only is it made from all found objects, but it will work beautifully with that boho-chic trend this summer.

The Fashion Guru – “A Little Bauble Babble”

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

Bauble. It’s one of those words that sounds just like it is, right? What’s that called? Onomatopoeia? Well I’m not sure that bauble is an exact ono-mano-whatever, but it definitely has a nice ring to it either way. Bobbbbllleeeeeee. It sounds like an exquisite and funky piece of jewelry with an eye-catching quality, no? Well it definitely does to me.

Spring is officially here [thank God!], marking the ushering in of the season of boho-chic, which we’ve babbled about before. It’s in full swing now, which means that the bauble is again on the rise, and this time in a very colorful and ostentatious fashion. The lovely lil’ fashion editors over at In Style love these two sparkly versions, which are perfect for a fancy evening out.

Seashore Ring and Turquoise Collage Ring

But as a girl who loves wearing big, noticeable rings during the day as well, I prefer a more organic version with real gemstones. One great bauble option is this turquoise collage ring, which is comprised of pieces of the stone engulfed by gold pearls and garnets – a true gem! [Pun intended.] Another more modern version is the Seashore ring – a little cornucopia of semi-precious stones set in sterling. Expect to see tons of organic stones this spring and summer in light of the bohemian trend. So you better jump up and score yourself a bauble-tastic ring ASAP. Looks like spring is here to stay now, and let me tell ya, it definitely ain’t waiting on you…

The Fashion Guru – “A Semi-Charmed Life”

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

While I’m pretty sure I don’t know any men who wear charm bracelets [though to be honest, I don't really hang with many alpha males], I do know that the charm bracelet is always a great standard for us women folk. Personally, I feel that the unique and wonderful quality about charm bracelets is that they are always changing. My mom used to tell me about the one that she has cherished since she was a little girl. For many years, she would receive a charm for each birthday that passed, and finally she had a bracelet not only full of wildly diverse trinkets, but also chock full of memories.

Nowadays, it’s customary to buy or give a ready-made version. For the most part, people don’t want to take the time or energy scouring the earth for the perfect rose gold cockatoo to immortalize their bird “Silly Sally” from when they were five. Now, to simplify the process, we buy versions with feigned sentimental value [and some of the most random things we can think of] – gingerbread men, candy canes, mirrors, melons?! Ones so chock full of “charm” that they leave no empty links for any charm of our own. But there is a happy medium, folks – those of us who don’t want to put in the years it takes to build up an entirely unique and individual bracelet can buy ones with just a few charms already.

The one pictured here is a perfect gift for mom this Mother’s Day [which is quickly approaching, my loves]. With its cute array of heart charms, it’s the perfect way to show mom you love her! Plus, it leaves plenty of room for you or mom to add unique charms to make it her own. And if that weren’t enough, this beautiful sterling piece was handcrafted by survivors of the 2006 earthquake in Indonesia, and all proceeds go to helping these survivors rebuild their lives. Can you really say no to that?

The Fashion Guru – “A Bangle a Day Keeps the Doctor Away…”

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

For those of you who have been reading since the start, you know how much I love bangles [for those of you newbies - it's A LOT]. I keep coming across beautiful dazzling bangles this season that are absolutely stunning! Gold with diamonds, sapphires, rubies – sexy stones galore! Of course it’s all wayyy out of my price range [recessionistas are involved in quite tumultuous love affairs with said stones these days], but a girl can dream, can’t she?

And when I dream, I dream big. I dream of a set of three of these thin gold bangles daintily dangling [aah the alliteration!] upon my wrist, paired beautifully with a paisley-print maxi dress and a pair of sexy little leather huarache sandals. Ooooh how ready I am to embrace the boho-chic of summer and leave the brisk, cold of winter in the city behind…

Wow. I guess I really, really want those bangles. They can take one from that beautiful bohemian dream to a sexy summer evening in that LBD and a pair of spunky little pumps. With bangles of gold and gemstones, the opportunities are endless! And guess what, my little lovebirds?! Today is your [and my!] lucky day.

So go and rub that Buddha’s belly for good luck – today might just be your day to win, win, win!
