Eco-Chic

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Maybe it’s my inner eco-geek coming out, but I hate throwing things away. I do not want to add to the waste that is all around us. I love to make stuff out of stuff. I love to see an object take on a completely new life other than the one that it was intended for. There is beauty in the unexpected.

Blue Glass Bracelet

Blue Glass Bracelet

While browsing through the Eco-friendly category on the site, I came across something that spoke to my heart. The Blue Glass Bracelet took me back to long days at the beach when I was a child. It was truly a good day when I found little pieces of broken glass, smoothed over by the endless rolling of waves. Sea glass was a treasure that my sisters and I went searching for in the sand. We always had dreams of turning those beautiful little pieces of glass into something fabulous. Maybe earrings. Or bracelets. Unfortunately we didn’t really know how to make them into jewelry, so the glass just became another memento of our days along the shoreline.

The glass beads on this bracelet may not have been found rolling in the waves, but the beautiful blue hues and the smoothed edges remind me of the water and those days. The glass has truly taken on a new life. There couldn’t be a better use for old wine bottles than this.

I cook

Monday, January 12th, 2009

No I’m not trying to push some Apple product starting with the obligatory lower case “i”. I think I can actually cook. Valentines is less then 30 days away and I’ve got to get ready. What am I going to make this year? What should I give my wife? Ladies and gents…I need some help.

The top one is a fine Shrimp Bisque. Actually pretty easy to make. On the bottom is an oyster garlic penne with shrimp. Very delicious and was easy to put together. I’m pretty happy with myself considering I’ve never tried anything like this before. Maybe I’ll make it a resolution for 2009. Red Bull less, cook more.

And here is the finisher: a strawberry/blackberry shortcake. I basically got a store bought cake, sliced into 3 layers, filled the layers with this milk blackberry sauce I made up, and the rest is history. The greatest thing about this meal is the plates were pretty much empty after the night. Couldn’t find a spoonful of bisque, barely a couple cut beans, and the cake? What cake?

I think my audience was pleased.

I crunched the wifes information(beautiful hot mom on the block) into the Guys Guide to Jewelry and here are some ideas:

This bag is made from juice boxes. Hmm yeah…not too many soccer moms have these. But oh boy do they want one!

This necklace is pretty cool. She likes silver so that is kinda why the bag and this piece caught my eye.

And this creme/gold bubble ring. I see this on the site sometimes and I think its following me. I’ll have to check with Susan to see if she has made some engineering changes recently.

The wife is out going and funky. Of the three what do you think I should go for to stay out of the doghouse?

Go green! With juice boxes?

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Remember when you were little and you just couldn’t quite get that little straw in the foil insert? Frustrating yet memorable. Most likely your mom came over and magically set up the juice box with ease for your enjoyment. Who would have thought you could turn this:

Into this:

The Multi-Colored Clutch is going to be a nice piece that will set the trends at the coffee shop. Just enough space for the important stuff but not overbearing. NBC may be going green this week but the clutch will keep you green all year long.
